 Associate Broker  Certified Residential Appraiser

\I am no stranger to North Carolina as I have been going to Denton, NC to the Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver Bluegrass Festival and Golf Scramble in each year in May, Bluegrass Festival in Cherokee, NC yearly for the past 21 years around May.

Susan and I have been coming to Sunset Beach for about the past 16 years as Susan has family here. We would rent a condo at Sandpiper Bay Golf and CC which was perfect as we play golf. After renting a condo each time we came (about every 6-8 weeks) we decided to buy a condo located on Piper Course with golf course and water view. Best investment we ever made!

Moving here was an easy and exciting yet monumental decision as I had lived in Douglasville, GA (about 25 miles west of Downtown Atlanta) all my life.  I had been a coach and teacher at Stewart Middle School for four years, then Douglas County High School for 7 years where I coached football and boys and girls basketball.

In February of 1969, I enlisted in the United States Naval Air Reserve and received my honorable discharge as Petty Officer 3rd Class (E-4) in 1975.

Graduated from LaGrange College in 1973 with Bachelor’s Degree and received my Master’s Degree from West Georgia College in 1979.

In 1983 I decided to go in to real estate appraising as a supplemental income.  In 1985 I resigned my position with Douglas County Schools to become full time in appraising.  Not an easy decision as I had obtained my Masters Degree just a few years earlier.  When licensing became necessary in 1991 I became a Certified Residential Appraiser. Obtained my Georgia Real Estate license in 1995 and began with Coldwell Banker in Douglasville while continuing to appraise. In 1996 I moved my license to Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers.

When we realized that moving to the area was a likelihood, I obtained my North Carolina Certified Residential Appraiser license.  Knowing that NC requires agents be broker licensed I obtained my GA Brokers License in 2013, then NC Brokers license in 2015. I continue to maintain my GA licenses. Susan received her Brokers License in 2020 and has continued to amaze me with her skills in providing our clients with her negotiating skills to bring both buyer and seller to the closing table.

I have been a Mason since 1986 and a member of the Atlanta Civil War Roundtable, of which my dad was a founding member.

I can say without a doubt that being an appraiser in Brunswick County is the best way to learn the area in a short period of time. I have out of state clients that continue to use my appraisal services here in NC so obtaining work is not a problem.
